Nonverbal
Nonverbal communication has many aspects, including gestures, movements, body postures, and facial expressions that can add to the richness of the ongoing communication. For example, a fidgety individual conveys an aura of restlessness and nervousness and at the same time a cheerful individual conveys an aura of happiness around him. In fact, nonverbal cues usually tell us more than words alone, and the message we get can be more direct and personal than heavily fabricated speech. To learn how to detect and interpret nonverbal cues is an art it self. I came across a comprehensive chart describing different cues one can look for in nonverbal communication.
"Twilight Mania" Presentation and Final Project Presentation
I exemplified nonverbal communication in my two oral presentations during the semester. In both presentations, I tried to use hand gestures to generate more effectiveness in the words I was saying. I think I did a better job with gestures and engaging audience during my "Twilight Mania" presentation. I was able to provide humor to my audience at appropriate times in my "Twilight Mania" presentation. Reflecting back on my Final Project Presentation - I think I need to improve on certain areas in my nonverbal communications. I really need to focus on engaging my audience better. Some of the key learnings I take away from my Final Project presentation is to rehearse in front of the mirror multiple times ahead of time and present the material with confidence. I will definately improve on these aspects during this journey of taking my nonverbal presentation skills from class room to board room.
